September 2nd - Into Oregon

Today after a nice walk through the streets of Danville we set off for our 7-hour journey. The drive through most of northern California on the 5 is incessantly tedious. We stopped at a tiny nothing town called Corning and had some hamburgers at an Olive tasting place. Then once you get to Shasta its beautiful. Huge mountains, forests, and the lake. We stopped at the Mt. Shasta City to get some coffee and take some pictures. Even there right beneath the shadow of a 14,000 foot mountain covered in snow it's still very hot. But we had our coffee and some peach cobbler at "Lily's Cafe" then headed on back to the freeway.

We drove another 200 miles or so through up through the California/Oregon border and then we finally got to the Wolf Creek Inn. It's great here. A very old historic building in the middle of the woods. There is all sorts of intersting (haunted) history here. Mostly I just loved the food. I had Scallops Provencal with a marionberry crumble. We met some very interesting people here including a woman who I believe is Mom's long lost twin sister. They were so alike it was frightening. They talked about TJmaxx, and food, and travel, and all sorts of things. Her daughter it transpired was actually the president of Wellesley College's a cappella group the Tupelos, who I actually know pretty well. We were forced to sing songs at the very old piano for Mom and the other woman Gale. It was an interesting end to a very nice day.

The beds were awful.

  1. This is so cool looking! I wanna go- it has "wolf" in the name and is spooky/Americana with the woods in the background. Reminds me of the movie "The Village" which happened to be a terrible movie. haha

  3. I am so sorry I didn't get the coffee beans while I was there. I dream about them. Sad, really, that my dreams revolve around coffee and such.
